Random thoughts of this random blog...

I am enjoying my children more and more everyday.  Most days I just sit back and wonder what life was like without the two of them.

Samuel has become quite the little ham.  Tonight when we turned off one of his favorite things on TV, he said "OH MAN."  Tim and I both laughed.  We never expected him to say that!  He is also very sweet.  Whenever he does something that he knows he is not supposed to do, he will come up to you and want you to hold him.  When you pick him up, he will place his head on your shoulder...he really tries to butter you up.  We have already started teaching him sorry and thank you.  He does not say them on his own, but when you tell him to, he does know what he is saying.  I hope he will grow up to be as polite as Elly.

Elly is still such a sweet girl.  We take a nap practically every day together in my bed.  We read two stories and then she wants me to sing.  Most of the time, she is asleep by the time I stop singing.  I have started singing the hymns to her that I grew up with (Great is Thy Faithfulness, What a Friend we have in Jesus, etc.).  I thought when I started doing that she would not like it because she does not know the songs, but she really enjoys it.  I also enjoy getting to sing to my sweet baby.  Many times, I sit back, sing to her, and just tear up thinking about how blessed I am to have her.

Discipling hurts!  I heard my mother say "this hurts me more than you" and I thought...yeah right!  But that really is true.  Today when I was putting Elly's pull up on for nap time, she started kicking me in the stomach with her legs.  Not hard enough to hurt, but she did not need to be doing that.  So I firmly asked her to stop.  She looked dead into my eyes and continued.  At that moment, I swatted at her bare leg.  I am sure it stung her some because it stung my hand a little bit.  She started to cry.  It hurt me so bad.  I picked her up and told her that Mommy did not like swatting at her, but that she needed to listen to Mommy and obey the first time.  She said "ok Mommy."  I rarely use swatting as punishment just because I feel like when I talk to her, I calm down some before I punish her.  But sometimes I need to do it to get her attention.  It worked, but man does it hurt me more than her.  I stopped spanking her a couple of months ago when I spanked her harder than I wanted to.

This week a lady in my bible study group grumblingly said "I don't think I got the mother that I deserved."  That really hit me and I started thinking about what I deserve.  I could think of nothing except for one thing...I deserve hell.  I do not deserve to live...I am the chief of sinners and yet that is where the Lord's mercy steps in.  He has enough mercy to not give me what I deserve and enough grace to give me what I don't deserve.  Everything that I am blessed with in this life is truly not deserved.  Everything is a gift.  Everyday is a gift.  Every  moment is a gift.  His grace is written ALL over my life.  I could have remained childless.  The Lord did not have to bless me with Elly and Samuel.  I am so much richer than I ever deserve to be!
